“Truckers Ride for the Constitution” Oct 11th, Plan to Clog DC, Arrest Congress

Truckers to Shut Down America, a group claiming to support the Constitution but with an organizer who believes Obama is the Anti-Christ and might declare martial law, have big plans for October 11, 2013:

Tractor-trailer drivers will intentionally clog the inner loop of the Washington, D.C., beltway beginning on the morning of Oct. 11…Earl Conlon, a Georgia trucker who is handling logistics for the protest, told U.S. News tractor-trailer drivers will circle the beltway “three lanes deep” as he rides with other participants to Congress to seek the arrest of congressmen for allegedly disregarding the Constitution.

Because nothing says you love America more than screwing up the morning commute, though Conlon is offering up a little bit of relief– D.C. commuters who wish to be allowed past the convoy, which will be observing the 55 mph speed limit, must have “T2SDA” – an acronym for the event’s original name, “Truckers to Shut Down America” – written on their vehicle. Conlon says:

Everybody that doesn’t have a supporter sticker on their window, good luck: Nobody in, nobody out. It’s going to be real fun for anyone who is not a supporter, [and] if cops decide to give us a hard time, we’re going to lock the brakes up, we’re going to stop right there, we’re going to be a three lane roadblock.

And it just gets zanier. Conlon, an author and  Tea Party member (which has me confused because aren’t there are lot of Teapartiers in Congress who are screwing things up for America?) is calling for a citizens grand jury, a pool of jurors convened without court approval, as the mechanism for indicting government officials who he wants arrested:

We’re asking for the arrest of everyone in government who has violated their oath of office….We want these people arrested, and we’re coming in with the grand jury to do it. We are going to ask the law enforcement to uphold their constitutional oath and make these arrests. If they refuse to do it, by the power of the people of the United States and the people’s grand jury, they don’t want to do it, we will. … We the people will find a way…What we want to do is go in nice and peaceful and keep it as peaceful as possible… but if they decide to get ugly with us we’re going to do what we have to do,” he said. “If all I get is one or two congressmen walked out of there in handcuffs, that will be a shot across the bow that will ripple across all branches of government. … I hope they are all civil enough and brave enough to step out onto the congressional steps.

High on Conlon’s list of potential arrestees? Nancy Pelosi and Dianne Feinstein. And maybe even Obama. Conlon says

Obama committed “treason” by allegedly funneling weapons to al-Qaida-linked rebels in Syria. Members of Congress who support arming Syrian rebels, Conlon said, are accessories to the alleged crime.

Arresting members of Congress may not be legal, in fact it could be considered kidnapping.

Truckers for the Constitution’s Facebook page has almost 50,000 likes. Truckers protesting is nothing new but Conlon brings a special kind of crazy to the convoy. At Tea Party Command Center he writes:

i’ve always believed Obama to be the Anti Christ from the day i first laid eyes one him.. not to mention the dreams i have had for the past 15 years showing me a man in office who i’ve never heard of before. then comes  2008 and the dreams get more detailed and intense… you figure it out..

maybe i am crazy?

And this:

THINK OF IT LIKE THIS:  if Obastard declares Marshal Law. we will then Know WHO and where they are.. and then we will have a clear knowledge of who supports them and WHO TO SHOOT..

Not all trucker are insane. But like everything else it has it’s loonies that’s for sure.

Agreed. I know some laid back truckers who just want to do their job, go home and play video games.

Conlon may be extraordinarily rendered before he mounts his trusty rig.

Chaos will ensue if he gets close to pulling it off.

…a group claiming to support the Constitution…

Trampling all over it, sure shows how much you truly support it.

hackworth1 | Monday October 7, 2013 04:38 pm 5

Of course, the police will not respond favorably to Conlon. They will shoot him and anyone in his entourage.

The police, in general, are in skull-cracking mode. They love that adrenaline rush.

well… they do make more sense than those “occupy” people

From another websites reader response to this article, I too wonder how much these men whose on road trucking life is wearing them down, how they might benefit from being in a union. Unfortunately they most likely don’t want to be in a union that would force them to align themselves with others whose skin color might not be as lily white as theirs.

Having said that, if they go through with it and the expected outcome occurs it would be Darwinism at its best.

I have real mixed feelings about this demonstration. On the one hand, it is a good thing to protest this corrupt congress. On the other hand, this organization (if it is organized) is not very clear on the concept of what is going wrong in the Capital. If there is violence, it could get out of hand very quickly and could be a very serious uprising. That could lead to long term resistance and it is anyone’s guess what would happen given the anger and frustration in the USA now.
Or, it could be just another flash in the pan and put down efficiently, if not quietly, by law enforcement and demonstrating again that we live in a Police State.

There will be a ton of “hell yeahs,” and then there will be maybe two truckers that show up (if it doesn’t get “postponed due to [fill in the blank excuse]). Probably be more members of the media there hoping for some fireworks than there will actually be truckers. But who knows, maybe some poor deluded truck drivers will actually be there to get arrested. Then again, maybe Convoy wasn’t just a great American song and movie?

first the trukerzz,now the Bishops

Catholic Bishops To House: Shut Down The Government Unless We Get Our Way On Birth Control

One week before House Republicans shut down the government in an effort to force President Obama to enact many of their preferred policies, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote House members requesting that the government be shut down — and potentially that the nation be forced into default — unless religious employers were given a special right to deny birth control coverage to their employees. As Adele Stan reports, a letter signed by Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston and Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore told lawmakers that, “e have already urged you to enact the Health Care Conscience Rights Act (H.R. 940/S. 1204). As Congress considers a Continuing Resolution and debt ceiling bill in the days to come, we reaffirm the vital importance of incorporating the policy of this bill into such ‘must-pass’ legislation.”

when will men stop dictating to women on their bodily rights and decisions?

The Grand Marshal of this extravaganza has got to be C.W. McCall.

Tammany Tiger | Monday October 7, 2013 05:09 pm 12

Jeez, I missed the video at the top of your story, Lisa. That A’s-Tigers game scrambled my brains.

I hope these guys realize that anyone with a BAC of .04 or above can get his commercial driver’s license pulled.

Great idea and perhaps the arrest of a few Wall Street Bankers to boot.

These pricks couldn’t find their own ass, much less the Constitution, with two hands, a flashlight, a compass and a GPS unit. Arrest the lot of them.

billwarren | Monday October 7, 2013 06:07 pm 15

My father was an over the road truck driver until 1999, and he hated the song “Convoy”. Politically he is a middle-of-the-road type, he voted for Obama twice but likes Christie for the next election. Psychologists have studied professions for their outlook toward authority, what sort of supervision they will accept, etc., and the closest psychologically to truck drivers is college professors, because both professions have difficulty accepting being told what to do. Not coincidentally, I have done both, while I was working on my dissertation for my PhD. and also while I have been trying to land a steady faculty job. Truck drivers are often pathological about anyone interfering with them at all, and will reciprocate: they will not tell other drivers how to drive, even if you are just starting out and are dying for tips. Most truck drivers are motivated by money (you can make a lot for a job that doesn’t require college if you are willing to put up with isolation).

revisionist | Monday October 7, 2013 06:08 pm 16

i would also imagine that truckers are more inclined to the brainwashing. There is that new doc about how some dad changed because of listening to right wing radio for a few hours a day in his commute.

I know that years ago a couple of guys at my office would listen on their walkmans and would get really bent out of shape all the time. One had to be sent on a “break” a couple of times because he would get so worked up.

There are a lot of right-wing truck drivers I met while I was driving, I have also met some with serious mental illnesses, but no more than in other non-college required occupations. But frankly the most right-wing types I have met have been small business owners.

Another Koch brothers sponsored event?

grandmashelia1 | Monday October 7, 2013 07:39 pm 20

Hi Guys,
I hope they understand that the Federal highways are part of the civil defense network and cannot be shut down by a pack of hallucinating traitors and their delusional “citizen” court verdict, and if they actually try this, I suspect that attempting to place the US capitol under a state of “siege” during a government shutdown will not be looked upon favorably, or passively.

They are, quite simply, insane, but now that they’ve chosen the path of domestic terrorism they deserve the full consequences of the law if they actually attempt this.

onitgoes | Monday October 7, 2013 08:17 pm 21

While I object to ObamaCo/CIA arming Al Qaeda rebels in Syria, I don’t see it as treason exactly. I support any citizens’ rights to protest. But per usual, the Tea Party goes over the top. Conlon’s fevered racist “dreams” about Obama are classic Tea Party Southern Strategy nutball racism.

Is this in fact Koch funded? I think that’s the more relevant question. And if so, why?

gtomkins | Monday October 7, 2013 08:58 pm 22

I dunno, but it sounds like Brother Earl is a few Billy Bobs shy of a cracker minyan.

Can’t wait to see all the tea bagger congress creeps greeting them on the steps of the Capitol.

Not sure where they’re even going to be able to organize their “convoy”… from what I’m hearing from trucker friends is that the truck stops around DC don’t want these idiots pulling in.

kbki202 | Tuesday October 8, 2013 03:09 am 25

If f*kin retard, hippies tried anything remotely like this, they’d be caught in a “sting” operation, and disappeared into the terror-industry justice system, facing life sentences, and branded traitors, evil, and America-haters.

But these tfcuker guys are regarded by elites as “friendlies” and will be handled with appropriately kid gloves. Besides, they make for great theatre to distract the masses, and possibly can be used to turn the ratchet of political debate a few more notches to the right as well.

oops – that IS honestly a typo (quite funny now I see it) where I meant to write trucker…. no edit, so, sorry, nothing I can do.

Agreed. There is nothing the matter with the premise of the trucks coming in and clogging up everything.Shows who ultimately has the power-the people for its the people that do all the work.
