Golden Globes Ceremony 2013: FDL Live Blog

It’s the Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s own award show (on NBC at 5pm West Coast, 8pm East, right now!) with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey doing the hosting honors! The HFPA loves, loves, loves television and movie stars, and judging from the list of Best Director nominees, likes to set itself apart from those Oscar people.   So tune in, turn on, and drop names with Firedoglake as we dish the gowns, the speeches, and discuss who we would have voted voted for and why!

ANd in case you’re wondering what the stars are eating to offset the 6,500 flutes of champagne:

“tempting appetizer plate”
Grilled artichoke with fennel-tomato-lemon mousse, a kabocha pumpkin and smoked-dried tomato tart and pepper-honey goat cheese

The main
Traditional: smoked flat iron steak or sea bass

Dessert
Cappuccino mousse cake with dark chocolate, rum and Kahlua

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:14 pm 12

Maggie SMith=DRINKING GAME

Drink any time an actress an actress cries in a speech
Drink any time you see a person actively not listening to someone else.
Drink any time someone says, “I didn’t prepare anything!”
Eat a meatball sub any time someone thanks Harvey Weinstein.
Take off an article of clothing any time they show Judi Dench.
Take off an article of clothing any time Maggie Smith wins.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:44 pm 30

Shows why actors need writers

Peterr | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:48 pm 31

It’s sad when the orchestra starts to play over the acceptance speech for the winner of the Best Score.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:48 pm 32

So I love the top of JLo’s dress, but I think it would be better with a different skirt. . . I am a bitch.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:50 pm 33

“Not expecting this” = DRINK Because Adele has been. The Skyfall song was soooo good!

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:50 pm 34

“Pissing ourselves,” best line yet.

rosalind | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:52 pm 35

brilliant choice putting Mel Gibson at the front center table where the camera constantly catches him sitting head on hands looking bored out of his mind.

Peterr | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:59 pm 36

The Big Dawg in the House!

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 05:59 pm 37

BILL!!! Big Dog Clinton… Announcing Lincoln.

Glad they already voted.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:06 pm 39

Some of those people totally did not understand that presentation. That was, so, Get Out Of Here!

Teddy Partridge | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:09 pm 40

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:09 pm 41
In response to bgrothus @ 39

It was funny but not. GET OUTTA HERE!

Teddy Partridge | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:10 pm 42

Love JLaw’s dress, only a lovely young woman could wear that color.

Peterr | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:10 pm 43
In response to Teddy Partridge @ 40

And Meryl is probably laughing her head off at it.

Priceless.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:11 pm 44

Teddy, Mariel, right? And Lisa, also, notsomuch.

Peterr | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:12 pm 45
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 37

Spielberg was in shock. “OK, I made a great movie about a president, but having a president introduce it? Wow!”

demi | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:12 pm 46
In response to Teddy Partridge @ 40

I guess I’m feeling old, because I remember when they said it’s such an honor to be in a category that includes….
That really hit me wrong.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:13 pm 47

Right on, Ed!

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:16 pm 48

OK, so the look is the sorta corset thing on top. Everyone is wearing it.

JP Sottile | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:18 pm 49

QUESTION: How many more surgeries will it take for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban to look like identical twins?

demi | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:22 pm 50
In response to JP Sottile @ 49

A good question, but I guess I vote for that than her trying to look like her ex, Tom. Ewww.

Teddy Partridge | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:36 pm 51

Does anyone really think Governor Arnold was going to read anything off the card except “Amour,” the Austrian film?

demi | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:39 pm 52

Guess I’m done. Night night, all.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:40 pm 53

Claire has got vocabulary, well done.

Peterr | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:42 pm 54
In response to bgrothus @ 53

Thanking the wardrobe person that let out her pants every week while she was pregnant was a nice touch.

CTuttle | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:46 pm 55

Did Claire Danes really just give thanks for our War on Terror…?

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:47 pm 56
In response to Peterr @ 54

Every damn week, IIRC.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:51 pm 57

wow pot joke.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:52 pm 58

OK, is everybody high. Or is that redundant.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:53 pm 59
In response to bgrothus @ 48

And the problem is that it makes the bosom look weird and droopy.

CTuttle | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:53 pm 60
In response to bgrothus @ 58

*heh* Need any, bg…? ;-)

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:55 pm 61
In response to CTuttle @ 60

I’ll share, if you can.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:56 pm 62

Poor thing shouldn’t have gotten bullied into wearing high heels. And I think Girls isn;t all that either. It’s kinda sad and tragic and a yucky way.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 06:59 pm 63
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 62

I have limited TV access, so the TV shows, I have not seen. Of course most of the movies not either.

OK, the drinking is making this way. better.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:07 pm 64

A GREAT actor and hot dude, RD, Jr.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:07 pm 65

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:13 pm 68
In response to bgrothus @ 67

She is astounding.

Peterr | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:16 pm 69
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 68

Indeed.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:20 pm 70

Argo was great! So glad that he won!

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:22 pm 71

Again.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:34 pm 72

So many people are wearing really awful TANS. Clooney orange. Jackman orange. Catherin Zeta Jones orange. LOTS OF Boehner skin!

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:43 pm 73

OK, so which of these movies is a must see? Lincoln, that’s what I saw. No Pi, no salmon, no amour.

JP Sottile | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:44 pm 74

LD – you gotta find out what NBC cut from Jodie Foster’s speech with their 5 second delay cut-off thingy.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 07:50 pm 75

Still a crappy dress.

bgrothus | Sunday January 13, 2013 08:01 pm 76

Just in time for Downton Abbey. I hope Jodie has a great night!

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 08:03 pm 77

Foster apparently swore. I guess we need a lip reader, though they cut away from her, so we may never know.

Lisa Derrick | Sunday January 13, 2013 08:03 pm 78

Don;t forget we’ll be liveblogging the Oscars, too!

watajob | Sunday January 13, 2013 09:07 pm 79

What is this: Huff Po?1

wagthedog | Sunday January 13, 2013 09:21 pm 80

Few care about these celebrities anymore. Even at Huff & Puff they only got 200 comments during the whole ceremony.

BooRadley | Monday January 14, 2013 05:19 am 81

Thanks Lisa.
