There are some pretty shameful things in the news today, like Apple patenting
a new technology that would allow governments to disable iPhones and other smartphones whenever they like, including during protests and police riots…
Among the uses Apple promotes for the new technology are “forcing certain electronic devices to enter ‘sleep mode’ when entering a sensitive area” and when “Covert police or government operations may require complete ‘blackout’ conditions.” This means that police and other government representatives could stop journalists and citizens from photographing or filming examples of brutality or other illegal activity.
And the asshole Virginia State Delegate Bob Marshall who
spoke at a press conference against state funding for Planned Parenthood. He blasted the organization for supporting a women’s right to choose, saying that God punishes women who have had abortions by giving them disabled children:
“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children,” said Marshall, a Republican.
“In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”
Let’s not even go into “first-born” vs “first-conceived.” And Romney? He told an LGBT couple:
I didn’t know you had families.
But since this Late Night, and a free-for-all, off-topic gabfest, I’d like to lighten to mood a bit with some dog-shaming (cat shaming stories welcome, too!):
