141 Advertisers Rush Away from Limbaugh

As of Monday, 141 advertisers had evacuated the Rush Limbaugh show. The latest to withdraw:

The Wrap reports that Limbaugh’s syndicator, Premier Network, owned by Clear Channel,

withdrew its national advertising spots from his and other talk shows for two weeks on Monday, the same day that Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem called for the Federal Communications Commission to yank the right-wing radio host’s license.

Additionally, Think Progress reported that advertisers have asked that their ads no longer run on Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck or Michael Savage, as advertisers have deemed those shows

offensive.

I expect Rush to get the Koch Brothers and other Righties with cash to suddenly come to his rescue.
I expect Bain Capital to protect its investment and have all their companies invest with Rush they own Home Depot etc.
This of course would lead to less revenue for all the GOP businesses that advertise with Rush.
Yes regular consumers might find it hard to cut power or chemicals or other Koch brothers stuff. But Home Depot is very vulnerable.
Also is Bain has its companies back Rush this hurts Mitt. We can destroy Right Wing Radio and maybe hurt Right wing advertisers too!
Is the GOP trying to lose the election and start a boycott that targets their cash flow?

Watt4Bob | Tuesday March 13, 2012 07:58 am 2

So Rush is going to have to pay for his Preparation H from now on?

Well that’s bound to hurt.

Any details about how much the ad boycott is hurting other Right Wing Radio hate mongers? I wonder who will fail first Rush is way over paid so he needs cash to keep his show going. The other hate mongers are cheaper but have less audience a few percentage points drop in ad revenue might hurt them more than Rush.

Its so bad Rush might lose his unlimited all you can eat Big Mac Perk while working… well thats the rumor I am starting now:)

I am pissed off about Sarah Palin and the stupid MSM for picking up Sarah’s story that Lefties sometimes say things like rush says about Women. I would like to see examples of such comments from somebody who is a regular not a troll comment please.
I hate the media for lying about false equivalency.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday March 13, 2012 08:22 am 7

A quick google of” Bill Maher Sarah Palin” produces a number of results citing Maher refering to Palin as a twit (but with a different vowel). According to at least one reporter, Plain tried to get a boycott going but it failed. Kinda like when One Million Moms tried to get a boycott on JC Penney re: Ellen Degeneres (FAIL). Sometimes boycott don’t work because we have a free market economy. Also Maher is funny and Rush is not. And he is on a paid channel and Rush is using the airwaves of the United States of America

The Rush boycott is working because a lot of people have a non-partisan dislike of him. Heck I have staunch Republican friends who have told me they loathe Rush Limbauagh and think he spreads and hate.

And again, Maher is funny; Limbaugh is not. Funny is funny.

ThingsComeUndone | Tuesday March 13, 2012 08:31 am 8

Without Rush and the other hatemongers will have a very hard time motivating their base and they need constant hate to stay energized.
Many of Rush’s older listeners don’t use the net so they can’t get hate from the Righty blogs.
An election without hate or rather less hate means less GOP turnout. However if Rush and hate radio survive then they will motivate us more:)
I am not sure which outcome is worse for the GOP but its win/win for us!
What would be the bigger win is my question?

This article put it a funny way, “Bill Maher wasn’t talking about energy efficient light bulbs when he used the term “2 watt” in reference to Sarah Palin on his show”.

I think that every post about Rush and Women’s birth control should mention Rush has had 4? wives X amount of girl friends no kids.
I think every post should also mention Newt loves to cheat has had X number of wives and girlfriends but has stopped having kids.
Sen Vitter, Sen Ensign, ex Gov Mark Sanford all cheated on their wives but no kids.
The odds of them all getting a disease and being sterile are very unlikely, the odds none of them had a kid out of wedlock when they cheat so much are impossible…unless they use birth control.

Excellent comments as usual.

I HOPE something happens to silence these racists and hate mongers. I fear, however, that they have followers with “deep pockets”. And there will always be an audience for such people like Rush.

unless they use birth control.

That might be a big GOTCHA, unles they paid for it. There’s nothing wrong with using birth control (especially in the case of Rush and the others you mentioned). But now with all the multiple partner sex those guys are having, would you want to cover their birth control tab?

Rush & his sycophantic dittoheads LOVE to state that Rush is “just an entertainer,” but I’ve pointed out that Rush is being broadcast on US airwaves, not a paid channel. Generally the dittoheads feign ignorance or say that doesn’t matter. Well it does.

Of course, Rush & his dittoheads are going to go for the standard false equivalency that the dreaded eeeevul LIEbruls do “the same thing or worse.” Sure some commenters, like Maher or Stewart, may make negative or derogatory comments about Palin or others. We can quibble about how “fair” it is. But Maher & Stewart are definitely entertainers (even if, these days, they provide an insight into factual reality, not some kind of weird fractured rightwing delusional fantasyland), and they’re on cable and such. Plus the *amount* of dissing/drubbing of rightwing politicians, etc, is far far far far less (by huge magnitudes) than what Rush does daily. It’s not even in the same ballpark.

But unsurprising that the dittoheads would faithfully trot out the usual, standard false equivalency “arguments,” which no doubt have also be trotted forth by others in the so-called “mainstream media.”

141 Advertisers rushing away from Rush?

Perhaps the sun has finally set on Rush’s huge giant ass??

Whodaguessed? Well time will tell whether Rush gets to slink off to some neverland, like Glenn Beck (who still has his sycophantic fans), or whether Rush will come back some time in the not too distant future.

Rush was run as a loss leader for many years bc the type of fear-mongering divisive hatred that Rush is so “good” at spewing has worked out very very very very very well for the 1%. From their perspective: what’s not to LOVE about Rush? Rush has brought in giant votes and a TON of support for the policies and procedures so desired by the 1%.

So I won’t hold my breath that Rush’s day in the sun is over, yet. Only time will tell. But this recent spate of advertisers running away from Limbaugh is quite amusingly interesting to witness.

Maher did call Sarah Palin female genitalia, and has not as yet, as far as I know, aplogized for it. Ed Shultz called Laura Ingraham a “conservative slut” (apologized on air and gave himself leave without pay for it). Olbermann called Michelle Malkin a “bag of meat with lipstick” (apologized for it). I don’t think any of the apologies have been accepted, as the offended hyperbole is too valuable for them. The few liberals there are in the MSM should stay away from such language as they should stay away from rhetorical questions. Not only does it give the enemy ammunition, but it clouds the issues. I think the criticism is more potent if we stay on the high ground, target the evil inhumanity and anti-Americanism of their ideology, remind them of their and all of our innate human dignity, and demand that they act accordingly.

dosido | Tuesday March 13, 2012 09:44 am 18

There are different rules (I think) that apply to Sandra Fluke and Sarah Palin. Palin is a public figure, sought publicity, etc.

Does the same apply to Fluke?

I will bet that RL is well-versed in defamation law but I am hoping he crossed the legal line this time and Fluke can sue?

The good news is not as much as a demise of Rush as it is the probability that a good push-back can actually work. I signed a couple petitions that appeared in my emails and each would generate a dozen more from different groups. It was coming from all over.

And these advertisers probably know that Rush fans are stupid enough to buy anything worthless. That’s money in their pockets they have to sacrifice.

Attacking politicians is one thing its still not right regular people no. I have yet to see comments from Lefty Blogs attacking women in general that attack a regular person yes we attack female politicians and or famous people we don’t like.
We don’t attack regular people.
