Late Night FDL: Remember to Be a Member

Firedoglake is an astounding place, a site where views are expressed and the news, along with being disseminated, is also made. And it’s where change is made. The arrests at the White House Tar Sands protests featuring Jane and Scarecrow–and those protests and the subsequent rallying and letter writing by both Tea Partiers and liberals are what ended that project; the repeal of DADT; live feeds from Occupys around the country, including raids; the continued work of the Occupy Supply team; Bradley Manning; live blogging Prop 8…the list is long and strong of things FDL has worked on and accomplished over the past year by raising awareness with calls to action, by informing and inspiring thousands of people.. And we couldn’t have done it with our the input of our readers and commenters and the support of our members.

The FDL community inspired me–it inspired me to go alone to Occupy LA as the LAPD closed off City Hall, and inspired me to videotape cops standing with batons pulled, to question Commander Andy Smith, and outflank the police to get footage, as well as to capture on film the injuries sustained by Occupiers in the park.

FDL has taught me a lot about politics, and allowed me to find a voice, to comment on pop culture and religion, art and film.  Hosting Movie Night is an amazing  opportunity to bring first rate documentaries to the community–We had three Oscars nominated films and their directors as guests this year; in 2009 and 2010 we had two each.

FDL creates community, creates activism and produces results. I am a proud member and will continue be one. I think Brian said it best here:

To our current members, I can’t even begin to thank you for what you’ve done and continue to do. The difference in our capacity from before and after the start of the membership program is astonishing – like night and day. We’re becoming more stable and confident with time, because we know we have you not just at our backs, but neck-deep in the mud with us. I greatly admire you for stepping up and taking stock in everything we hope to accomplish here, whether it be joining simply to donate $45 or more per year, being an active participant in our webinars or joining the struggle for change in your community by getting involved with Occupy Supply and the Occupy movement. You should all be so proud of yourselves for what we have built together, and I really look forward to continuing to work with all of you.

As we enter our second year of the Firedoglake membership program, we’re brimming with ideas for what’s next and are glad to hear our members are, too. I look forward to what’s next and hope you’ll join the program if you haven’t already and help us continue to organize and innovate for change.

JOIN FIREDOGLAKE TODAY.

I thought that was really gutsy, Lisa, and I enjoyed the insightful, critical coverage. Thank you for that and everything you do!
