Late Night FDL: Meet the Leading GOP Candidates

The Mitt Romney video is brilliantly on point. Herman Cain singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” isn’t.

Romney

will force spiders and badgers on the enemy and make them shut up

and

continue to stuff the ice chest.

Herman Cain will continue to to be cheesy.

Oh hai!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:04 pm 2

I have the debates on the background

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:04 pm 3

I’d rather hear Godfather Cain sing about pizza than audition for Vice President……but Mitty sure gave him props. What a group of stupes.

DrDick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:04 pm 4

Lisa!

That is the most sense Romney has made all year.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:05 pm 5

Nice plus for “Phantom” with star singing the anthem

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:07 pm 6

Side note: Dan Choi told me that one of the things you have to learn at West Point is the second verse of the Star Spangled Banner.

Dang this Phantom dude was flat.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:08 pm 7

I know Dr Dick! The “spiders and badgers” was so logical by comparison to his usual babble.

AZ Matt | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:09 pm 8

You need a video of trained seals tooting on horns. That is what that debate tonight was like.

Kelly Canfield | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:09 pm 9
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 6

He should have picked one key to sing in – that would have helped. :)

DrDick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:12 pm 10
In response to AZ Matt @ 8

You mean you actually watched it?! I did not realize you were a masochist.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:15 pm 11
In response to AZ Matt @ 8

I can see it! I can see it! That’s right on…..toot, toot, toot, bark, bark. God, they are a motley group of losers. I wish I had any respect for Obama. So sad, really.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:21 pm 12
In response to Dearie @ 11

I wish they would let Fred Karger in the debates. he is not a frothing theocrat.

DrDick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:24 pm 13
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 12

Well, you just explained why.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:29 pm 14
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 12

Oh, good. I so dislike frothing theocrats.

I also think Buddy Roehmer is nice to listen to.

And I wish they’d bring in Hank Williams, Jr. or Chuck Norris…. just for fun. It would really improve the giggle factor.

EvilDrPuma | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:30 pm 15
In response to AZ Matt @ 8

The difference, of course, is that seals can be trained.

EvilDrPuma | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:33 pm 16
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 12

That’s two strikes against Karger in today’s Republican Party (not frothing and not a theocrat, that is).

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:34 pm 17

And, really, have they scheduled Mr.KingMaker, Donald Trump, to do a version of “Celebrity Republican Presidential Candidate”…. I so long to hear several rounds of “You’re Fired!”

EvilDrPuma | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:36 pm 18
In response to Dearie @ 17

About eleven firings would do it, I think (I remembered to save one for Obama).

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:39 pm 19
In response to EvilDrPuma @ 18

I was never good at the countin’ activity…..so glad you are. I so want Obama gone…..just can’t count on the righties bozos to pull it off…. and then we’ll be left with The Mitten and the Pizza Man. I despair!

Twain | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:43 pm 20
In response to Dearie @ 19

Don’t despair – Newt may yet surge to the lead and put out a contract on the other 8. :)

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:44 pm 21
In response to Twain @ 20

Heh!

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:47 pm 22

Sidebar: I sometimes wonder what Hillary thinks about the bimbos on the right who get all this attention. I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think Palin may finally have flamed out. Bachmann is just such an embarrassment to educated and thoughtful women.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:48 pm 23

Demi checking in, and may I say I’ll have what Dearie’s having, ’cause, damn, girl.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:51 pm 24
In response to demi @ 23

Hey, sweetie, I was so saddened to read that they’re closing down McGrath Beach. Drat!

DrDick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:52 pm 25
In response to demi @ 23

Well, you definitely do not want whatever it is that all the Republican candidates are on. It is looking like a serious overdose of the brown acid to me right now.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:53 pm 26
In response to Dearie @ 24

And, also, too….demi…did your cat come out from under the rocker? I wondered all day if we were going to get the Big One. So far so good.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:54 pm 27
In response to Dearie @ 24

Two things: They just recently got the path from the camping area to the beach cleared, and secondly, it’s about the sewer system, or so I’ve heard, and I’d go there if they put in port a potties.
I’m bummed and we’re looking for another close by camp site. But, the fire two years ago really messed up the forest to the northeast.
What’s a pup gonna do?

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:58 pm 28
In response to demi @ 27

Have you camped at Gaviota or Refugio? I camped at Gaviota maybe 40 years ago and it was fabulous.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:58 pm 29

Didn’t mean to snag your thread, Lisa. All of you all, just jump right in!

sfmikey | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:58 pm 30

Hizzoner Willie Brown says the GOP ticket is Romney/Cain.

Hmm, maybe. We’ll see if Cain accepts the script.

But Holy Mother of God, it comes down to Obama/Biden v. Romney/Cain?!

I hope the #OWS movement can birth a third party (or perhaps, ‘anti-party’) to disinfect our political system.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 08:59 pm 31
In response to DrDick @ 25

That’s funny. I was reading something, some time recently, some where – how off the wall is that – about someone comparing the OWS experience to Woodstock.
Don’t eat the brown acid, right?
(That explanation wasn’t for you, I knew you would get it, but maybe not everyone.)

DrDick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:00 pm 32

Time for me to toddle off. Take care all.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:03 pm 33
In response to Dearie @ 28

Both, and they are on the Let’s Do list. Also Sycamore Canyon. It’s like a smaller Leo Carillo, but with a way better beach. I.E. there is a grove of sycamore trees (with nicely weathered picknic tables right on the shore line.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:03 pm 34

Was I the only one who thought that Pizza Man was totally auditioning for Mitty’s VP tonight? It makes a sick kind of sense. Couple of businessmen taking on Mr. Community Organizer who fucked over the community. (Hey, it’s late….I’m sure no kids are reading.)

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:04 pm 35

Nighty-Nite Dickey Boy. (That’s what we all called one of my cousins.)

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:07 pm 36

Yes, demi, both Sycamore and Leo Carillo are beautifully located… though I’m still waiting for my grandboys to get a bit older and ready for camping. I was camping with my own kids when they were infants, but my daughter is not quite ready. Do you have to book months and months in advance for either of those?

My neighbors go up to Pismo a couple of times a year (with a camper) and love it.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:10 pm 37
In response to Dearie @ 36

Yes, you have to book WAY in advance. That was the cool thing about McGrath. You could get in pretty much any time.
The other place that is easy to get in is San Onofre. Duh!

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:16 pm 38

And, how ’bout that Mitt?

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:17 pm 39
In response to demi @ 37

Well, since everyone seems to have bailed, let’s chat! Run up some good numbers for Lisa. Did you see that I “Occupied Oxnard” ! It was great. I didn’t like that it was organized by MoveOn.org and that they were recruiting….but I liked that it got organized…and the newspaper reported that there were 100 people…..including a member of the City Council and a member of the School Board. Woo-hoo!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:18 pm 40

Mitt was asked what messge he had for Occupy porotestors and he just blathred about why he shold be president
what a doofus

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:19 pm 41
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 40

He is a doofus! But I’m afraid that he’s going to be our doofus. With Pizza Man pulling in the Christian Right…… Mr. Cain, cult-modifier. Crap.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:20 pm 42
In response to Dearie @ 39

In fact, I did. Funny, ’cause just the that day my husband told me that when he picked up our boy from the mall in Burbank where he went to see The Thing with some friends, said he saw a small group gathered at a park down there, and when he got to the theatre, there was one person with a sign. Burbank, I’ve always considered them Nazis.
But, then most of the people in my town probably haven’t even heard of OWS. I’m not kidding.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:21 pm 43

Santorum is like a deer int he headlights

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:24 pm 44
In response to demi @ 42

Believe me, most people in the USA probably haven’t paid any attention to OWS. I was so surprised to see a group in Plaza Park…. I just couldn’t resist joining in. You know that Oxnard is probably almost 70% Hispanic, and we didn’t have many at the first march…..but I hope we can draw them in. Mostly old white folks with a few wonderful black males who seemed to really get it. Really a good experience.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:26 pm 45

Lisa, Santorum is so non-presidential, but at least he didn’t totally embarrass himself tonight. The fact that he’s even on the stage is embarrassment enough for the country.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:29 pm 46

And, hey, Lisa, thanks for all the updates on Occupy LA. It is wonderful to get all the information from across the country. I also enjoyed your piece on the women’s group you worked with for years. Great stuff.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:35 pm 47

Sorry – doing dishes – but, yes, sometimes we imagine that others see what we see, but, sadly no. Lots of people don’t pay any attention to the news, but you can understand that with work multiple jobs to pay the rent, raising kids and all that.
But, there are families who are paying attention and it’s especially nice to see the young families at the Occupying Events.

Dearie | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:42 pm 48
In response to demi @ 47

It’s ongoing……I hope! Lots of press in Sunday’s paper of the various marches in this part of Ventura County. And, yes, it was terrific to see young families. As we walked through Oxnard a college student came out of a fast food place, and I said, “Hey, come join us.” And he did. Fun.

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:45 pm 49

Fun is good. Joining is good. Being part of the movement is good.
Going to say Night All, now.
Pleasant dreams where and when you find them, dearie. You are a dear.

mzchief | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:47 pm 50

OK, so I spent my time laughing uncontrollably at the videos herein as that’s what I think about the debates. Great picks, Lisa!

In response to demi @ 49

Nite, demi….fun to chat. Catch you on the flip side.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:50 pm 52

night demi

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:50 pm 53

Thanks, mzchief!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:51 pm 54

Thanks Dei, I am enjoying Occupy coverage

demi | Tuesday October 18, 2011 09:52 pm 55

Flip, Dearie and Lisa.

The video is funny (and in good fun), but definitely something to be avoided by people with no sense of humor. So, yeah, DrDick should steer clear.

Lisa Derrick | Wednesday October 19, 2011 04:40 pm 57
In response to DonWilliams @ 56

Dr Dick was referring to the debates, and they were really funny!
