Late Night: Oh Al, How Trendy! And a Rush to Judgment

So rumors abound that Al Gore did some extra-marital global warming. Gore and the most-likely lady–Laurie David, who produced An Inconvenient Truth (can you hear the jokes now?)–both deny having an incandescent liaison.

Way to jump on the extra-marital bandwagon, Al. Actually if the affair story is true, Gore handled it with far more discretion than Edwards, Ensign, Sanford…But still, extra-marital affairs just seem so de riguer nowadays.

Rush Limbaugh made some snarky comment about how he couldnt see Gore having an affair because

an affair requires a willing participant.

The same could be said about Limbaugh and marriage.  Or Limbaugh and his Dominican Viagra vacations. But I guess where’s there’s a wallet, there’s a way. BTW, I am still waiting to hear if and where Elton John–who Limbaugh claims wants to build bridges, not walls, which must be why he played Tel Aviv ::eye roll:::–is gonna donate some of that million he was paid for the 80 minute concert at Rush’s wedding. Gods know Sir Elton is not gonna give any to marriage equality, since he thinks civil unions are just as good. Obviously he hasn’t looked at the laws…Which brings up the California ruling on Prop 8 tomorrow.

Lisa! Infidelity is so last century. Can’t any of these yahoos do anything original? And Limpballs talking about anybody else not being able to find a willing participant (over the age of 12, who is not being paid for it), just broke the irony meter.

Infidelity may be so last century, but lots of people are just catching the wave. The worst are those who strive for polyamory, but without informing any of their partners…

My sentiments exactly. If it does not demonstrate profound hypocrisy (as with the “family values” crowd), does not break any laws, and does not create a significant conflict of interest, politicians private lives should remain just that.

Bill Frist had an AIDs Charity too. I suggest we audit Elton’s charity.

Charity all around. Frist’s AIDS charity, World of Hope, Inc., turned into a double-barreled example of cronyism and influence-peddling. The charity paid nearly a half-million dollars in consulting fees to members of the senator’s inner circle. Meanwhile, it raised the lion’s share of its $4.4 million from just 18 sources, including several corporations with frequent business before Congress, such as insurer Blue Cross/Blue Shield, manufacturer 3M, drug maker Eli Lilly and the Goldman Sachs investment firm. From the start, the charity aroused concern about creating another channel of coziness between Frist and moneyed interests: In 2004, Frist held a fundraiser for the charity, and more than half of those donating to the $3.5 million event were corporations and trade groups, many of them pharmaceutical companies with a stake in legislation before Congress. But he is clueless about “the rights” civil unions grant here in US. I do understand that he may have been looking at the idea of “marriage” as a straight construct and an assimilationist idea, but marriage proveds certain rights (like for companies that provide dom partnership insurance, you get taxed by IRS on your partner’s coverage, though married people aren’t)

It was solo and 80 mins, maybe the $2million is for a longer show or with a band?

BTW, Rush explained how they came to get Sir Elton. Kathryn and Rush were staying at a hotel in Hawaii of Xmess and so was EJ. When El Rushblob has his fainting spell (which he insists was not a heart attack), EJ inquired after him, and K who had wanted EJ to play the wedding–and Rush had been in contact with EJ’s agent about it, which makes me think “how coincidental” that they were at same hotel, but anyway–K sent EJ a note and Rush left but K stayed for 2 weeks with her mom and pop (what a nice finace!) and met Elton and talked him into it.

He fell for her

said Rush

Everone who meets her falls for her

Rush told this story on air today, and says EJ told it during the concert.

And now they are good pals and have been invited to hang at Elton’s London digs.

Rush said that when he looks at Elton, he doesn’t see a gay man, he sees the greatest singer/songwriter/performer of his age.

Here’s Elton John’s info from CharityNavigator.org. They are in a deficit right now, they have a really high rate of giving to fundraising.

Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) is one of the world’s leading organizations supporting innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and direct care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS….Direct services include HIV/AIDS-related medical and mental health treatment, testing and counseling, food distribution, assisted living, social service coordination, and legal aid.

If Elton makes money playing these places, and he gives a percentage to his foundation, is that bad, good or…?

Looking at how much EJ earns on his own (est $32million), his foundation giving $6 million a year in services seems small, as they do high profile fundraisers (Oscar party, his summer ball).

I mean it’s 20% of his annual pay, but at a certain point HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU NEED?

Silence. Then:

Well, that’s a very different story that the one we heard.

Me:

This is classic stalker behavior and a way to see me and engage me. I am happy to give you her booking number and the incident report numbers

Them:

No..no..that’s okay. So what can we do to help you keep her away from you?

Me:

The cat rescue lady Kathy can come and look all over my house for the cat. But Lili cannot contact me, or come mear my property before that and certainly not during. Kathy the Cat rescue Lady can then report back to Lili. And Lili is never to contact me again.

Her arraignment for trespassing is 6/30, and I have to go and make a case for her staying away from me as her punishment.

He needs to donate enough to offset his tax bill.
That’s how wealthy people work it.

And why the 50% discount for Rushie?

Good point! If the performance fees go to charity, why let Rush pay less than Elton’s reported fee of two>four million. I’m shocked that he would show up for Limbaugh for a measly mil.

Matt Simmons Revises Leak Estimate To 120,000 Barrels Per Day, Believes Oil Covers 40% Of Gulf Beneath The Surface

Matt Simmons was on Bloomberg earlier, adding some additional perspective to his original appearance on the station, in which he initially endorsed the nuclear option as the only viable way to resolve the oil spill. Simmons refutes even the latest oil spill estimate of 45,000-60,000 barrels per day, and in quoting research
by the Thomas Jefferson research vessel which was compiled late on Sunday, quantifies the leak at 120,000 bpd. What is scarier is that according to the Jefferson the oil lake underneath the surface of the water could be covering up to 40% of the entire Gulf of Mexico.

Simmon’s is claiming the Jefferson said this ” Lake of heavy oil ” was 300 to 400 meters thick .

It’s too bad you didn’t link to Rush talking about Elton John and his wedding. He spent an hour on it, and it was great radio.

Both Elton John and Rush Limbaugh were building bridges, which greatly angers those who hate bridges between those who disagree.

I hate to be left out of a hot trend. Anyone interested in marrying me, so I, too, can have extra-marital affairs?

joeyess | Wednesday June 16, 2010 05:56 am 113

If this is true I’d hate to be in Al’s shoes. Larry David has a wicked sense of humor and won’t hesitate to write a special “Curb” in his honor.

I can hear Jeff Gerson now: “What the fuck?????”

Maybe their wives are just bitches.

I don’t care what EJ gives the money to, there’s some lines you just don’t cross under any circumstances. EJ is dead to me, I have deleted it from my iPOd. Just like Schwarzenegger, I can no longer watch one of his movies without thinking about all the evil he has enabled. How many times has Rush specifically stated that he would like to see all liberals dead, and not metaphorically either? Fuck you Elton, you traitor.
