Minnesota GOP: Fail!

Minnesota’s Senate District 42 has a poll up asking constituents

Do you believe in enforcing our nation’s immigration laws?

Both possible responses are “yes.” Two variations on “yes.” At least they are consistent.

The screen shot is here.

Heh! That poll is a hastily-reworded version of the deeply racist original, which PZ Myers sent the Pharyngulites to mess up.

This law basically requires a person to carry their birth certificate with them. This important document should be locked in a fire proof safe at home, but this law makes law abiding citizens carry it. How else can American born citizens prove that they are not illegals?

Why has no one asked these people whether or not they think law abiding citizens should carry around their birth certificate?

Yup. It pretty much means that anyone with Hispanic features is now an automatic target for robbery by identity thieves. (And of course Canadian and Irish and Polish undocumented immigrants aren’t the ones that the cops will be strip-searching.)

Because the birthers might actually like the idea.

100% false. Why would you say such as obviously false thing?

Read the explanation of the law in today’s NY Times. Facts are a good thing.
