Trans Speaker Receives Threat Over Appearance at Yale “Sex Week”

Picture 6

Buck Angel, Sex Week At Yale‘s panelist and Masters’ Tea keynote speaker, received a threat about his appearing at the student-organized event. The threat, received through Angel’s Facebook account via a sock puppet, was relayed to Yale, and organizers have arranged 24 hour security for the transman porn actor. The threat, re-posted on his Facebook page reads:

are you producing sperm yet ? and you don’t have to take male hormones ? so then you’re not really a man, but a messed up fake, we’ll be waiting for you at Yale….we would like to tell you to your ugly messed up face, just what we think, and dare you sweet heart to swing. just raise bitch.

Full disclosure, I’ve know Buck for over 15 years and he is one of the most genuine, sweet souls ever who takes his work very seriously, as an expression of liberation and discovery for himself and his fans. And as good clean fun. He practices safe sex 100% of the time and is active in HIV organizations. Buck told me he feels when it comes to condoms,

Laws should be in place in adult industry about using condoms, and I catch a lot of sh*t for saying that.  I want to stress: It is not okay to have unsafe sex.  People look at my films and even though its just a fantasy, I am role modeling, and so for me not to have safe sex is irresponsible.

For some people, the idea of Buck, a very masculine guy, who has a vagina, doing porn, really effs with their concepts of just about everything. When Buck and I spoke yesterday about the regular hate mail he gets, and this most recent threat about his appearance, he told me:

I’m not scared. I’ve been getting hate mail since I’ve been doing my work. Some people think I’m what’s wrong with the world. But I wasn’t expecting it from Yale, an institute of higher learning. It took me by surprise.

Angel is a porn entrepreneur and winner of the porn-prestigious AVN Award Transsexual Star of the the Year and

As an icon of popular culture, Buck Angel’s message of empowerment through self-acceptance and being sexually comfortable in your own skin has struck a passionate chord with folks all over the world. Buck is not only inspiring people to think outside the box, he is re-defining gender and educating an entire generation on the fluidity of sexuality and identity politics.

Though not everyone seems to feel the same way. Buck and Carla Hass of Protect Marriage (!) were copied on this email sent from another sock puppet:

a female transsexual that does prono for a living to speak at Yale University
Yale University is having a female sex change, to do a talk, and we’re paying for this, are you mad, ? a female sex change that had the change so that he/she could do gay male porno ?

Buck takes it in stride though, telling me

I’m changing  mens minds, showing that being a man has nothing to do with what’s between your legs, has nothing to do with size. I am astounded at how focused people are on genitalia, thinking that that’s what makes you what you are. It’s your energy not your genitals.

The biennial Sex Week At Yale, which runs this year from Feruary 6 to 14  is

an interdisciplinary sex education program designed to pique students’ interest through creative, interactive, and exciting programming. ex Week at Yale explores love, sex, intimacy and relationships by focusing on how sexuality is manifested in America, helping students to reconcile these issues in their own lives.

Buck wrote on his web page:

I was blown away when I received the call to be a part of this important event. Sex Week at Yale is a great platform to educate people about sexuality, gender and identity politics. I am very proud to be associated with the nation’s most acclaimed college sex celebration!

Buck gets some grief in the glbt community but I love him for his sex positive attitude and for being true to who he is.
We need more men and women who are willing to put it out there on a regular basis.

I’ve known Buck for years and am friends with other FtM and also MtF folks. Sure, the idea can take a bit of congitation to “get” for some, but… stop me if I’m pointing out something too challenging… isn’t college supposed to be about cogitating? At least once in a while?

While the intolerance, ignorance, and blind, foaming fear parading as rage is distressing, I think the lousy spelling and grammar are even more appalling. Surely Yale and its surrounding do-gooders are more erudite than this simple state college educated daughter of an 8th grade drop-out and rural high school grad.

If the bully who scribbled the above threats had any faith in the values they presume to believe in, there’d be less hysteria at the idea that idea they might be be confronted by another view.

And of course the “blame the victim” crowd is jumping into action:

What a phony. It is so obvious he wrote the “threat” himself. Google him to see what outrageous publicity stunts he has done in the past. This seems like an obvious effort to maximize publicity to further his “career”.
