Late Night: Limbaugh is a Turkey–Claims Thanksgiving Hijacked by Obama’s State Dinner

Let’s talk turkey (Limbaugh) and dinner (tonight’s State Dinner at the White House), which pretty much will be over by the time we’re chatting away.

Conservative blowhard Rush “Limburger Windbag”Limbaugh claims Obama is hijacking Thanksgiving,

a uniquely American holiday

by holding the grand event, his first State Dinner–gasp–two days before the cranberry sauce gets served and Uncle Frank shreds the turkey with grand ceremony. And even more appalling, implies Rush, it’s for India! And then he goes on to gargle that the only reason it’s not being held

on Wednesday or even Thursday is the Indian Prime Minister must have to get back home to deal with the nukes in Pakistan

Gosh Rush, you should know that India is the world’s largest democracy, and is critical in stabilizing Afghanistan, where we’ve announced we’re sending 35,000 troops to

finish the job

. That make it’s a better choice than oh, say France, who Rush hates. Or just about any other country. Because no matter who  was the guest, Rush would bitch like a mother-in-law over lumpy gravy because the host is Obama.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be joined by a large yet select group of politicians including Claire McCaskil, Jim McDermott, and John Kerry; Hollywood luminaries Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg, along with Gayle King (what, no Oprah!? That’s right, NO Oprah!), Alfre Woodard, Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Robin Robert.

Also on the list noted guests with ties to India like Obama’s original choice for the post of U.S. surgeon general/CNN Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta, Deepak Chopra, director M. Night Shyamalan and  Kalpen Modi, Associate Director, Office of Public Engagement, aka the actor Kal Penn, aka Kumar of Harold and Kumar fame.  Oh and really cool–Jennifer Hudosn will be singing!

The dinner takes place in a huge tent on the South Lawn, and guest will dine on Indian influenced dishes with choices for vegetarians and vegans. The menu includes a salad of arugula grown in the White House garden, potato and eggplant salad, red lentil soup with fresh cheese, and potato dumplings with tomato chutney. Entrees are a choice of chick peas and okra or green curry prawns,  served with  caramelized salsify, smoke collard greens and coconut aged basmati.

For dessert? Pumpkin pie and pear tartin, followed by coffee with petit fours, cashew brittle, pecan pralines, passion fruit and vanilla gelees, and chocolate dipped fruit. Each course is paired an American white wine.

So what’s on your menu? And really, what leftover recipes do you have in mind?

hey lisa — i’m not cooking this year and i get to bring home leftovers. the best of both worlds :)

ratfood | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:06 pm 3

I suppose Rush’s Thanksgiving spread will feature stuffed Domincan boychick.

misswildthing | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:07 pm 4

And there were two gay/lesbian couples there – Urvashi Vaid and Kate Clinton along with David Geffen and his SO. So 21st century. No I am not being snarky.

Can’t you just see Rush chowing down on his own turkey leg and then trowing it over his shoulder into the fire place? Me too, gross.

Twain | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:08 pm 5

The menu sounds wonderful. Saw photos of the various dresses at Huff Post and the women were stunning. Michelle looked great.

EvilDrPuma | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:11 pm 6

Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat idiot. Fuck him.

DrDick | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:11 pm 7

May Rush suffer terminal indigestion to go along with his premanent dyspepsia.

I am having turkey leg marinated in mojo criollo, braised chard with chantrelles and hard squash, baked white sweet potatoes topped with a blend of paprika, cayenne, and a pinch of garam masala, and bread stuffing.

Okay but Gail and no Oprah–what is up with Oprah not going? She must have been invited…hmmmm

I am going out of town to visit best friend’s family with her, missing the usual Friday leftover swap T-party with friends, but we’ll be back Sunday for Second Giving, which is a ham and biscuits fancy sit down dinner with more friends

Fats Limpy and the political slut have no impact on my life (I’m going Teddy) …. and I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving with family. Traditional trukey, the stuffing my dad always makes, and all the other fixings. The country is a mess, but our table will be comforting.

We’re having corned beef on rye with coleslaw, cranberry relish, and pumpkin pie. Largely nontraditional.

Dearie | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:21 pm 15

And I finished most of my Xmas shopping today (we’re going quite simple this year) and that makes me very thankful. I’ve never done a black friday and I sure wasn’t going to do it this year.

DrDick | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:23 pm 17

Yeah and pretty easy to fix. The stuffing is the most complicated thing on the menu. The turkey leg is from a Hutterite free range turkey and the chantrelles are local wild mushrooms. Living in western Montana occasionally has its advantages, other than the scenery.

i’ve really scaled back the holiday shopping. and i haven’t done a tree in many years — of course losing all my xmas decorations and oraments in the move to the cottage by the creek in the redwoods had a lot to do with that. i used to always do the holidays up. not any more.

“Limburger Windbag?”

We all know Rush is wrong, why do we need to resort to lame nicknaming? Sorry, but it makes the left sound as childish as the right when names like that or “rethugnican” get tossed around. Grow the fuck up.

Wally world got into trouble in NY by a stampede on a previous “black-friday” and is taking special precautions. I have an inside source that says several certain category stores will be hiring over a hundred people at over 20 bucks an hour for crowd control. Probably just for the weekend though.

Hugh | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:49 pm 47

I have to say the menu did not appeal to me. Not even any cranberry-orange relish. What were they thinking? And having an Indian influenced cuisine is a little bizarre. I mean Singh probably has wonderful Indian cooking all the time. I am not vegetarian but there are lots of good American vegetarian fare, especially this time of year.

When I started going to Grateful Dead concerts in the late ’70s the crowds were large but very mellow. By the mid ’80s beer had become the drug of choice and the crowds started turning obnoxious. I think the last one I went to was at Soldier Field in Chicago in about 1990 and you could barely hear the music over people carrying on irrelevant conversations with their friends. End of an era, for me anyway.

Oilfieldguy | Tuesday November 24, 2009 08:54 pm 54

Hugh | Tuesday November 24, 2009 09:15 pm 88

Thanks for asking, Oilfieldguy, the Obama Administration gives me a sinking feeling in my stomach every day. I find the whole healthcare debate and the fissure it has caused among progressives depressing. Afghanistan is another case where the smart choice is clear, and not on the table. And I admit that I am obsessed by the economy falling into fullblown depression in 2011 and how few people seem to be looking at the data and extrapolating it out to that time. Most talk about a weak or prolonged recovery. I see a cliff. And I suppose I am less tolerant than I used to be. I see us falling into the same kind of habits that the right had under Bush, all of the trust Obama even if it looks like a sellout, things take time, there’s probably a secret plan we don’t know about. I want my fact-based left blogosphere back. *g* I would rather go down looking at the light than hiding from it. Sorry for the rambling.

Dearie | Tuesday November 24, 2009 09:16 pm 89

Frankly, while I no longer care about Obama, I hope that there are many more state dinners — and that BushCo goes down in history for having the fewest (I think 6 in 8 years) and least interesting and elegant in American history. i gotta get to bed. followin’ the “Going Rogue Tour” coverage today has taken alot out of me. And if she’s on Fox & Friends with Gretchen “Dumb As Dogshit” Carlson tomorrow a/m., just remember it s’not live. It was taped in The City Beautiful. I won’t be in the picture seein’ as how I didn’t go, so it’s really not worth watching. Do you realize that some people drove over 100 miles, some slept out in the parking lot Monday night to get a wristband and then waited in line all day to see this maroon tonight. Good God. What have we come to?

I’ll let it roll, just you make sure you find time to enjoy being alive and have fun with others.

Your comment just jolted me a bit, given how I respect and have shown respect for your thoughts all along.

Shut up and pick!!! *G*

Beerfart Liberal | Tuesday November 24, 2009 09:32 pm 118

Yeah, I need to go look that up, it was incredible.

Sigh. Reason in our national public discourse . . . sigh.

I try to remind myself that there were always stupid people….now they’ve found something to rally round. Such a blot on our society. But we really should be pricking the top dogs who are controlling the rest of us……I’m just so amazed that that women gets any press at all.

Beerfart Liberal | Tuesday November 24, 2009 09:33 pm 121

Larue, sometimes shit doesn’t come off in print like it was meant in my brain. I guess that was one time. No harm intended at all. Like I said above, I’m with your #108. we’re on the same page.

Larue | Tuesday November 24, 2009 09:35 pm 122

It was the sex part, huh . . .*G*

Nite hoss, sleep well and don’t forget:

If it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing.

I’m putting my feet under the table of my best friends who are fabulous cooks. I will contribute dishes, and will really, really be pleased to have my children join us from New York. Ohio is a state that is still beautiful (just not politically except for Sherrod Brown).

Here you go. Bear in mind the early casualty estimates were quite high, so the 20,000 figure was not an intentional exaggeration.

Thanks for the link! I’ll check it out.

I recall on that day, at work out here left coast, thinking we’d lost hundreds of thousands in those towers.

I still can’t fathom how we didn’t.

Course, there’s OTHER questions I have bout it all, but not for here and tonight.

Thanks again for that link, too kind and I owe you and Bob one of your choices, any time.

Yeah, do and done all that . . . only refreshing window woiks for some reason.

Likely, my RAM cache is full, and I gotta reboot.

Too much streaming and downloading music uses up my resources.

Good for the Obama’s and guests.

Me, I’m having smoked turkey, cornbread and andouille dressing (my homemade andouille i should add), sweet potato casserole from Ruth’s Chris steakhouse of New Orleans fame, homemade blueberry pie, mashed potatoes with garlic, blue cheese, and sour cream, and gravy.

Don’t need to be a viceroy in god’s country to eat like a satrap. At least til my unemployment check keeps coming. Next year, who knows?

Great menu!

Re yer handle:

“I’m a rambler and a rover,
And a wanderer it seems.
I’ve rambled all over,
Chasing after my dreams.
But a dream should come true,
And a life should be filled.
And I’m on my home,
To my piney wood hills.”

Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for your comment.
That’s some great food you got.
