Fats Limpy and the political slut have no impact on my life (I’m going Teddy) …. and I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving with family. Traditional trukey, the stuffing my dad always makes, and all the other fixings. The country is a mess, but our table will be comforting.

Bob always eats well but he got some apple tonight and it really whet his appetite. He’s been chowing down with depraved abandon.

We’re having corned beef on rye with coleslaw, cranberry relish, and pumpkin pie. Largely nontraditional.

And I finished most of my Xmas shopping today (we’re going quite simple this year) and that makes me very thankful. I’ve never done a black friday and I sure wasn’t going to do it this year.

Yeah and pretty easy to fix. The stuffing is the most complicated thing on the menu. The turkey leg is from a Hutterite free range turkey and the chantrelles are local wild mushrooms. Living in western Montana occasionally has its advantages, other than the scenery.

i’ve done about half of mine — online orders to ship directly to the girls’ locations in december marked do not open until xmas.

i’ve really scaled back the holiday shopping. and i haven’t done a tree in many years — of course losing all my xmas decorations and oraments in the move to the cottage by the creek in the redwoods had a lot to do with that. i used to always do the holidays up. not any more.

I have to say the menu did not appeal to me. Not even any cranberry-orange relish. What were they thinking? And having an Indian influenced cuisine is a little bizarre. I mean Singh probably has wonderful Indian cooking all the time. I am not vegetarian but there are lots of good American vegetarian fare, especially this time of year.

I don’t either. Went out one year on Black Friday and it was like something between a wrestling match and a Grateful Dead concert. I fled.

I know quite a bit about their practices, but I can’t share because my source is very close to me and fairly important to them. It’s a tough crowd.

I thought the menu sounded yummy, for the most part, but couldn’t understand why they didn’t do American vegetarian.

When I started going to Grateful Dead concerts in the late ’70s the crowds were large but very mellow. By the mid ’80s beer had become the drug of choice and the crowds started turning obnoxious. I think the last one I went to was at Soldier Field in Chicago in about 1990 and you could barely hear the music over people carrying on irrelevant conversations with their friends. End of an era, for me anyway.

Thanks for asking, Oilfieldguy, the Obama Administration gives me a sinking feeling in my stomach every day. I find the whole healthcare debate and the fissure it has caused among progressives depressing. Afghanistan is another case where the smart choice is clear, and not on the table. And I admit that I am obsessed by the economy falling into fullblown depression in 2011 and how few people seem to be looking at the data and extrapolating it out to that time. Most talk about a weak or prolonged recovery. I see a cliff. And I suppose I am less tolerant than I used to be. I see us falling into the same kind of habits that the right had under Bush, all of the trust Obama even if it looks like a sellout, things take time, there’s probably a secret plan we don’t know about. I want my fact-based left blogosphere back. *g* I would rather go down looking at the light than hiding from it. Sorry for the rambling.

Frankly, while I no longer care about Obama, I hope that there are many more state dinners — and that BushCo goes down in history for having the fewest (I think 6 in 8 years) and least interesting and elegant in American history. We may be a mess of a country right now, but I hope we can still show a touch of class…..just cuz.

I go all traditional when it comes to Thanksgiving. Turkey, lots of dressing, a couple kinds of cranberries, mashed potatoes with giblet gravy, cauliflower and cheese, some second vegetable like peas, someone else does the sweet potatoes and salad, pies for dessert, and a few hours later turkey sandwiches.

Not me, I’m keeping track of everybody’s mistakes by writing it in my diarrhea.
