Late Night: Finally I Agree with Fox – Napolitano Calls Palin a “Goofball”

First, Dick Morris calls Palin a “flake,” and now frequent Fox News Channel guest Judge Andrew Napolitano repeatedly called Sarah Palin a

goofball

on his Fox News radio show Brian and the Judge. He also said Palin

reinforced the notion that John McCain chose her for reasons having nothing to do with her compentency to replace him should he become president and unfortunately not be able to serve full term.

Well then, Judge, for what reasons do you think McCain chose her? Judge Napolitano said that while he agrees with her foreign policy, Palin

does not posses the mental capacity to be President of the United States.

Ouch.

Then, co-host Brian Kilmeade and Judge Napolitano go on to discuss Palin’s “rehabiliation” appearances on Oprah and Barbara Walters, remarking on her explanation of the grand Katie Couric fail, and calling the former governor

sexist

for thinking the CBS anchor would do a lighthearted piece about motherhood with a vice presidential candidate.

What is up, Fox? Is the glow off the neo-con Queen Esther? Has the conservative media gotten tired of her snubbing gatherings of Republican lawmakers? (Gosh, has Fox gone elitist?)

Or have they realized she’s nuts as bunny, crazy as two acres of snakes, insanely ambitious? Or just a royal pain in the ass?

Oh dear. I do hope that this doesn’t mean that they have partially returned to some (very) small semblance of sanity before 2012. I was so looking forward to the Palin/Bachmann Crazy Overdrive.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday November 17, 2009 08:04 pm 2

Handy slang and word weirdness: Goofball is a term circa 1930 for a combo of heroin and cocaine.

In Hebrew the word “guf” or “gof” pronounced “goof” means empty body, that is one without a soul (or breath).

Dr Dick, the clip I link to has Dick Morris form an earlier post running through a list of GOP potential candidates and explaining why they suck; for example Huckabee is in an “ecclesiastical ghetto,” according to Morris

Here is the gorgeous, sexy elephant in the middle of room not spoken of much:

If Sarah Palin was 65 years old, weighed 300 pounds and looked like Phyllis Diller would we be exchanging all this endless bullshit about her?

Beauty. I was just watching a Frontline account of the death of Neda Soltani. And I could not help but wonder how, in being young and beautiful herself, this played a big part in the international reaction to her murder. How does youth and beauty *work* in our reactions to things.

Oh, and it would be interesting to note in turn, how, if the Fort Hood massacre had occured this week [The Week Of 24/7 Sarah Palin] the media would have handled her. How big would the news have to be to knock her out of the headlines for, say, a week—another 9/11? an Israeli invasion of Iran?

Hugh | Tuesday November 17, 2009 08:24 pm 31

ABCNews had a big chunk of its broadcast tonight with the Walters-Palin interview. ABCNews just can’t get away from shilling for the right. Who cares what a flash in the pan politician who had their 15 minutes of fame months ago thinks about anything? I caught the segment only by accident and it was amazing only for the superficiality and emptiness of Palin’s responses. If you want to know why our country is crashing and burning it is because so much of our public discourse is taken up by braindead idiots like Palin.

Walters semi-followed up on a few questions but never really challenged Palin or that she simply doesn’t know what she is talking about or that her responses are masses of contradictions.

You are much more likely to lose important parts of yourself that wy than to ever find anything worthwhile. On the other hand it did turn me into a radical empiricist. The further the GOP gets from Palin, thankfully, the less we will hear from her. After her book tour publicity window slams shut, her political career will go as far as they back her. Hopefully, they have other plans for her back that include the proverbial dagger. A scary thought is bible belt knit and crochet soccer moms backing her in our lifetime.

I don’t regret having used psychedelics. Thing is, there is no way of knowing if you would have gained the same insights without. Also, while I don’t believe they ever cause mental illness, in people with a predisposition to develop mental illness I suspect it might accelerate the process.

Meth and some of the psychedelics actually can induce at least temporary psychosis by messing up the brain chemistry. Longer term heavy use can cause really serious problems. The psychedelics and also cause severe reactions in people with unstable neurochemistry. sometimes, you just really don’t want to fuck with mother nature.

DrDick | Tuesday November 17, 2009 08:41 pm 50
In response to Petrocelli @ 46

I was an extremely experimental child in my youth and at least tried pretty much everything available in the 60s-70s. Cannot say that I gained any special insights from the experience (other than there are several things I never want to get near again). I really do think that the natural ways are far more conducive to insight.

malibulongboarder | Tuesday November 17, 2009 08:41 pm 51

Her “fanbase” is scary. You will see it grow in the coming weeks. But staunch GOP will create distance. They will Dan Quayle her. Here’s an idea, Hilary v. Sarah in steelcage match thunderdome style. Two women enter, one woman leaves. Or maybe Martha Stewart v. Sarah would be better, since Martha is a street-wise, hardened criminal who has spent time in the hole.

ratfood | Tuesday November 17, 2009 08:42 pm 52

I’d make a distinction between recreational drug use (cigars and cognac also fall in that category) and drug abuse. Granted, the line gets blurry at times. Of course most of the people who use drugs as recreation aren’t doing it for the insight.

Meditation is certainly more therapeutic and at the very least, more cost effective. Gotta learn to slow down and turn off the inner dialog.

DrDick | Tuesday November 17, 2009 08:44 pm 53

I saw some of the early claims for LSD, but remain skeptical of any substantial benefits. Unfortunately there really has not been a lot of serious research subsequently as drug paranoia pretty much shut that down.

Don’t ever do speed. Those old speed freaks you see aren’t old, they’re thirty and but look sixty. Don’t do it ever.”

Leary was primarily under the influence of his enormous ego. During the ’70s when he was on the lam in Europe (I think) he sent his reps to try to shake down the Grateful Dead, saying he had pioneered the acid renaissance they had benefited from so they owed him $60,000, or something like that. The Dead enjoyed a good laugh about that.

Fox is a partisan Republican network. If they turn on Palin, it’s because they fear that she’ll be a disaster for the party.

They are in a funny position: they are economic “I’ve got mine” Republicans. The Christian right is just supposed to supply the footsoldiers, they aren’t supposed to run the show. Fortunately, a lot of their base is stupid, so by yelling “death panels” and “Nazis” their insurance company backers can stall health care reform. But they wanted the bailout that their base is attacking, and they need someone in office who will follow orders, like Bush did, not a loose cannon like Palin. Who knows what she might do?
