it’s probably important to note that there are many people in this country who register in the political party of their parents upon turning 18. I’m an Nth generation Republican (or should have been). In my case, I may be the first registered Dem. on both sides for well over a century. Suffice it to say that being Republican was kinda automatic in this context.
