Big decision..what channel? Local news? Local affiliates? CNN, MSNBC, Fox?

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 09:58 am 2

I think KTLA is good… you know, local flava…

BevW | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:02 am 3

Are you surprised that MJ will be at the Staples Center, or had you heard earlier?

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:03 am 4

I am a little amazed that the family insisted on bringing the casket. Luckily most citizens are staying home–OMG they have a SWAT TEAM TRUCK

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:05 am 5
In response to BevW @ 3

When I woke up the casket traveling and arriving was the first news I heard. At one point our police cheif was opposed to it, but since it was a sudden decsion itkept away lookie loos.

However the entire 1o1 and 134 and 110 freeways were shut down, dozens of CHP officers, plus ambulances..I mean..really

BevW | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:08 am 6

Smaller crowds than predicted, 50,000 vs 75,000…. per msnbc

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:10 am 7

Good, they are al staying home! wise move…HUGE police presence, cops brought in form surrounding cities, best day to rob a bank or Tiffany’s ever

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:11 am 8

Michael’s bros will be pall bearer and carry casket onto stage, then service, gospel choir, then celebration.

BevW | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:12 am 9

Smokey Robinson reading Diana Ross and others

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:13 am 10

my guy in staples center says servers are overloading, hard for him to send messages, he has great view

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:13 am 11

I’m glad some people have the good sense to watch it on TV. But what about the people who came from overseas? Can you imagine traveling overseas for a celeb funeral? Am I just not getting it? (From the comfort of my home… ahhhh….)

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:15 am 12

Am I the only one who thinks Barack Obama is actually relieved he is out of country and doesnt have ot face the complexities of attending this… the right would crucify him for attending funeral of childmolestor/drug addict and then he’d get grief for NOT going too…

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:16 am 13

Lisa… I thought the same thing! Barack: “Get me outta here NOW! I don’t care if it’s Yeman. Just have Airforce One drop me off!”

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:17 am 14

Loooong moment of silence

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:17 am 15

And there is a sick part of me that expects him to rise up from the casket and start dancing

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:18 am 16

Oh man… he could *REALLY* do Thriller justice! Zombie attack!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:21 am 17

my reverance is about to to crack at the zombie comment…

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:22 am 18

Glad to be of service, Lisa.. :)

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:23 am 19

family has entered

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:24 am 20

Clapping… isn’t that a little… odd?

BevW | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:25 am 21

+20 minutes waiting for Rev Sharpton?

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:25 am 22

Justin Timberlake holdin’ up the show?

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:26 am 23

okay they must have audio problems…because KTLA has cut to a viewing party at the very awesome Lucy Florence community center/cafe in Leimert Park

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:30 am 24

on CNN Anderson is talking about his global impact Fox–yes I went there, is talking abut bursitis and MJ’s being sick yet managing to tour….senior station? MSNBC, pop culture wrap up, local stations have Encino family home footage, exterior shots

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:32 am 25

CNN – discussing the nice peeps who are *giving* away extra tix… Still, lots of filler!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:33 am 26

I dont even want to think what the backstage diva stuff is like. It’s starting…gospel

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:33 am 27

And the choir begins…

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:34 am 28

casket getting rolled out, wow the flowers

Millineryman | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:35 am 29

Is a boy’s choir singing?

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:37 am 30

Lucious!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:37 am 31

Nice eulogy

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:39 am 32

“Countless good deeds.” Did I hear that correctly? Okay… “We are the World” counts…

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:40 am 33

Mariah! Looking healthy… and sparkly!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:40 am 34
In response to Millineryman @ 29

Andrae Crouch chior did the opening..MARIAH!!!

Gods, I hope someone does Ben

Whatchamacallit | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:45 am 35

5 minutes until Ashton Kutcher jumps out and says you have all been punked

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:45 am 36

A fan speaks…

Millineryman | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:45 am 37
In response to Lisa Derrick @ 34

I love Mariah’s voice.

Whatchamacallit | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:49 am 38
In response to SpillsAndThrills @ 32

He also pretty much ended Macauly Caulklins Career… I mean seriously if there was a Home Alone 7 I think the world would have imploded. Thanks for saving us Mike

Millineryman | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:49 am 39

Were the pall bearers wearing a single bedazzled glove?

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:49 am 40

Latifah is right… he is/was the biggest star in the world. Wow, I’ve never started a sentence before with “Latifah is right.” First for everything!

Whatchamacallit | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:50 am 41
In response to Millineryman @ 39

That or they were all wearing Titans football helmets… whoops wrong funeral how embarassing!

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:51 am 42
In response to Whatchamacallit @ 41

I hate when that happens….:)

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:52 am 43

Lionel’s got TWO flowers. He ain’t playin’!

Whatchamacallit | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:56 am 44
In response to SpillsAndThrills @ 43

One for each Michael persona… hip Michael and Old Lady Michael

Millineryman | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:57 am 45
In response to Whatchamacallit @ 41

It’s hard to keep track anymore, that’s why the costuming is an important consideration.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 10:59 am 46

But what did the one glove MEAN?

Whatchamacallit | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:00 am 47
In response to SpillsAndThrills @ 46

The one glove was for the crime scene… OJ’s didnt fit, and Michaels didnt leave thumbprints!

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:03 am 48
In response to Whatchamacallit @ 47

hahaha!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:03 am 49

Berry Gordy saying MJ had 2 personalities…uh yeah, and possibly a third he didnt mention

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:06 am 50

Just got home. What did I miss?

Millineryman | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:06 am 51

I wonder when the DVD will be released?

Whatchamacallit | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:07 am 52

Can’t they just do a Weekend at Bernies type thing with Michael Jackson’s body so that they can do the 50 dates at London’s stadium or whatever. Now, that would be a Thriller

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:08 am 53

yes, Stevie, God is good!

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:08 am 54

ONE of the rumors is a Jackson tour with a hologram MJ! That’s so Haunted Mansion.. !!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:10 am 55
In response to SpillsAndThrills @ 54

Doubtful on the hologram, but that ghost video at Neverland is FREAKY. ABBA and Led Zep will pick up the dates at O2, and MJ dead will be bigger than if he had done those dates…

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:11 am 56

Didn’t they already find Michael’s ghost at Neverland on a youtube video? I’m sorry, I know this is supposed to be solemn, but it’s a zoo.

Lisa, I emailed your friend inside the Staples Center. Hopefully he’ll join me on the air tonight on Air America at 9pm PT, followed by you! Everyone can listen to the live stream tonight at http://www.airamerica.com/listen from 8-10pm PT.

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:13 am 57

I agree, MJ dead will be much bigger than alive. The DVD of the rehearsals of the tour that will never be will retire whatever debt he had. I do feel sorry for his kids, though. Have they been shown yet?

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:15 am 58

And actually it is a nice touch to have the casket there, makes it waaaay more like a memorial. Thanks gods it’s not open

Hey Millineryman, if you’re still here, you mentioned that this is the day of the longest eclipse of the century, very weird and fitting…The eclipse was in Capricorn…

There will be some stress as blockages will begin to crumble and then there will be a feeling of freedom. The good news is that creative and artistic qualities will be discovered as you let go of beliefs that don’t correspond with your current reality!! Outdated ideals or dreams may need to be discarded, which can be painful but necessary. You experience an awakening (emotional and spiritual) to today’s truths as the clutter is cleared away and the present is seen in a new light.
This Lunar Eclipse in strong, steady Capricorn chips away at emotional defenses revealing gentler ways to manage daily life. You are forced to address personal issues which may reveal insecurities. Fortunately, there is a nice aspect to Saturn (a Trine) at the time of this eclipse and this will provide support as you release old ways of thinking and living to create a stronger you. You will see the need to create new rules for yourself as you drop those that no longer serve your needs. Keep in mind, as you go through this process, this is all good and part of your pattern of growth as you are forced to finally drum up the courage make necessary life corrections!! Letting go of extraneous obligations will help you focus on the tasks and goals most vital for you right now.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:15 am 59

Was the whole show captured for the “last video”? If so… cash cow!!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:16 am 60

Hi Nicole! Hey Nicole, you’re on AirAmerica tonight? What time? Oh wait, I just read more of your post! Yes, I’d love ot join you and my friend Henry Peck (the BEST hair guy in LA) is there inside. he rocks and is a music brainiac too

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:18 am 61

OMG, MAGIC JOHNSTON!!!! I love him.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:19 am 62

And KFC sales just went UP….

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:20 am 63

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:24 am 64

Jennifer Hudson is incredibly talented, but I wonder how well she knew MJ. And the singers behind her are really creepy.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:24 am 65

Wow, Magic thanks the city and AEG for putitng this on AND speaking of, if you are enjoying the event, you can donate to the City of Los Angeles, (tax deductible) to help offset the nearly $4million in costs. yes LA is the entertainment capital of the world, but we are BROKE

The city launched a Web site with a link to a “paypal” account into which fans could make only contributions using major credit cards. Fans will have access to the site through the mayor’s facebook page, facebook.com/villaraigosa , and twitter page, twitter.com/villaraigosa

.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:25 am 66

ABC just showed fans in Times Square watching

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:25 am 67

I wonder how well MJ knew *anyone*. Maybe he was close with the guy who held his umbrella…

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:26 am 68

Did Al Sharpton just say “LOVE VIGILS”?

wow he looks thinner and his hair is LOTS better

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:32 am 69

And Sharpton just said to MJ’s kids “there wasn’t nothin’ strange about your daddy…” Seriously? Not saying good or bad, but strange, indeed.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:35 am 70

Uh-oh… smooth jazz from John Mayor… take cover!

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:37 am 71

Your body is a Neverland… oh, never mind… !!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:41 am 72

Brooke…very good insights

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:41 am 73

Again, I have to wonder what John Mayer has to do with MJ. At least I know that Brooke Shields was, indeed, a friend of his.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:46 am 74

Blanket!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:47 am 75

BROOKE: What’s up with the glove–yeah…

To the people who were lucky enough to know him personally he was PURE? a lover..of life..

Okay you know they guy who held his umbrella, what will happen to him? I wonder if his personal staff will be taken care of with gifts from the will, by the family’s kindness..I mean if not, expect TELL ALL

SHE SAID BLANKET!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:47 am 76

My friend Henry just dropped this on his FB page:

Henry Peck: a woman up in front of me says “he’s been redeemed in my eyes”

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:49 am 77

And I asked which “he” the woman was talking about, as he posted that while Al Sharpton was speaking… Was it Sharpton who was redeemed, or MJ?

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:49 am 78

OH. MY. GOODNESS. Jermaine’s one gloved goodness….

And just an aside… Jermaine’s son is named.. anyone? JERMAGESTY.

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:50 am 79

ZOMG, first glove on performer…JERMAINE

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:52 am 80

I suspect that halloween will see many an MJ in WeHo parades and LOTS of MJ costumes in the stores..

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:53 am 81

Lisa… the tasteless possibilities are endless… !!

Pannochka | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:53 am 82

“I suspect that halloween will see many and MJ in WeHo parades and LOTS of MJ costumes in the stores..”

I predict many will look like this:
http://www.arrse.co.uk/uploads…..er_749.jpg

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:53 am 83

Did Martin Luther King III just say “Be a Bush”?!?! God forbid

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 11:56 am 84
In response to nicolesandler @ 83

If I had to be a Bush, I think I’d want to be Barney or Mrs Beasley.

Whatchamacallit | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:03 pm 85

If Martin Luther King III had a dream about this, he should have told Michael before it all went down..

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:04 pm 86

Somehow, Sheila Jackson Lee pales in comparison to Brooke Shields. Really, was this necessary at a funeral?

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:06 pm 87

Well,I guess from of political POV yes…and Barack wasnt gonna do it. Resolution 600, that claims MJ as an american legend and icon to be honored forever and ever.

Um, I can see that, BUT there is the drug and kid issue.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:07 pm 88

It’d be funnier if it were Resolution 666…

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:08 pm 89

I want to hear BEN!!!

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:11 pm 90

I want to hear something upbeat, like Off the Wall. They’re probably not taking requests…

Siun | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:14 pm 91

Gotta say, it’s one helluva funeral …

Pannochka | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:14 pm 92

Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank) just posted this on FB:

Frank Conniff thinks it’s too bad that Michael Jackson’s relationship with his personal physician is the only healthcare story that the mainstream media has any interest in covering.

lvnlyfe | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:15 pm 93

sad song by Usher…totally made me cry

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:15 pm 94

Smokey mentioned “birth certificate” which makes me think of those freaky Obama deception nutters

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:17 pm 95

My snark-o-meter is very low today. Very sad indeed.

lvnlyfe | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:20 pm 96

LOL…”deception nutters”

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:20 pm 97

Who is this kid? Did I miss something? HE’s good, but no Michael Jackson!

lvnlyfe | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:20 pm 98

wow, this kid is great!

BevW | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:21 pm 99

What a coup – Britains 12yr old start sings at MJs funeral -

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:21 pm 100

OK, MSNBC just said it’s a 12 year Britain’s Got Talent singer. Why??

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:22 pm 101
In response to nicolesandler @ 97

he’s the kid finalist from Britain’s Got Talent who toured as a young MJ in the “Thriller Live” show.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:22 pm 102

That’s kid’s awesome!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:24 pm 103

And a plug for the tour from Kenny Ortega the tour and memorial producer.

I will say this event was a pay day for union and non union production staff at Staples and Nokia, for the editors on the tribute videos, for support staff, for hotels, taxis, but…

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:27 pm 104

We Are The World….wow, this freaky

Pannochka | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:27 pm 105

Oh..I just flipped back. They are doing that knock-off of “Do they know it’s Christmas

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:34 pm 106

This has been quite a show. and actually fairly tasteful

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:34 pm 107

I’m still waiting for Thriller…

Pannochka | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:37 pm 108

I don’t get the wearing sunglasses inside thing. I always thought rude people, people too cool for school, and drug addicts did that.

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:40 pm 109

Ohh… baby…

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:41 pm 110

Spontateous family speeches…HIS DAUGHTER, This is heart breaking, what a brave child

lvnlyfe | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:41 pm 111

wow…the little girl….too sad

Pannochka | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:42 pm 112

Yay it is over

Maybe I can watch news or something now.

C-Span was getting boring

SpillsAndThrills | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:43 pm 113

Thanks for a great chat, Lisa!

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:43 pm 114
In response to Pannochka @ 108

Sometimes people with nearsightedness wear sunglasses, other times it’s to cover up no make up, puffy eyes or because there is a weird feeling of uncomfortableness with direct eye contact.

Or because they are high as a freaking kite

lvnlyfe | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:45 pm 115

Michael was a true hero, and I hope all of those hateful, prejudice people can maybe learn from his legacy.

Pannochka | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:46 pm 116

Yeah…but here it just seemed weird.

lvnlyfe | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:46 pm 117

This was great, Lisa! Thanks..it helped with some of the sadness…

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:49 pm 118

Wait, where was Justin Timberlake?

“There will never be another Michael Jackson…let’s celebrate out uniqueness and respect our differences..a remberance truly of what he means to us…all around us are people of different colors, religions and nationalities… music brings us together. Take the hand of the persn next to you. let us pray…heavenly father..thank you..remind us we cna truly make a difference…let us stop judging people by the color of their skin or the accent of their voice…may we impact others…theis event as a reminder that we too can make a change”

THIS PRAYER ROCKED.

And most importantlay let us not forget: copyright 2009 AEG LIVE

Lisa Derrick | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:51 pm 119

Thank you all for sharing and participating. And for those of you in Los Angeles, thanks for staying home. Seriously.

nicolesandler | Tuesday July 7, 2009 12:59 pm 120

And Lisa, I’ll talk to you tonight, betwen 9 and 10pm PT, on my Air America show.. People can listen in at http://www.airamerica.com/listen.

Teddy Partridge | Tuesday July 7, 2009 01:17 pm 121

Corey Feldman’s outfit: homage or indictment?

Margot | Tuesday July 7, 2009 02:56 pm 122

We are the world
We are the children

I wanted them to keep on singing.
Very sad day
