MICHAEL JACKSON DEAD

OMG Michael is DEAD per TMZ. He was admitted to UCLA with cardiac failure, and was not breathing. He was 50.

Bummer for the investors, Colony Capital, his fans and the folks who bought tickets for his 50 shows at London’s 02 Arena. And it makes Sky Saxon of the Seeds this millennium’s Darby Crash. Crash of the seminal punk band the Germs, died the night before John Lennon was murdered. Sky Saxon died just hours before Jackson in Austin, TX. His 1960s band the Seeds was best known for hit  "Pushing Too Hard."

This has not been confirmed. LA Times says he is in a coma.

foothillsmike | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:23 pm 2

It has now been confirmed RIP Michael Jackson.

Millineryman | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:25 pm 3

RIP Michael.

Raven | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:33 pm 4

Sky Saxon! Say it ain’t so!

ART45 | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:33 pm 5

He made some great music — e.g., Billie Jean.

MTV and Michael Jackson came together in the early 1980s.

Great artist. Flawed individual.

Mauimom | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:34 pm 6

As sorry as I might be to learn of his death, I am pissed that MSNBC, in this time of 7,476 OTHER issues, is running door-to-door “coverage” of this.

Please: Michael Jackson more important than health care, the economy, Iran/Iraq?

Get real folks. Tune in to MTV for this if you want, but quit hijacking the “news” stations.

Spencer Ackerman | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:35 pm 7

Farrah Fawcett isn’t today’s Darby?

CNN is the same

SpillsAndThrills | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:40 pm 9

His latest album: Unplugged.

Sky Saxon is today’s Darby.

Raven | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:45 pm 12

Bitch if you want, I didn’t care for him but he was important to many many people. All this other shit will be here in the morning.

sibosop | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:45 pm 13

Time to start the he’s not dead rumors.

CCinNC | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:48 pm 14

He was a freak but tragic. I’m strangely weepy, was never a huge fan, but I loved Thriller, and he was a big part of my 20s.

Also choked me up seeing Farrah recording a message to her son.

beth meacham | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:48 pm 15

I loved his music. I cringed over his prominently displayed self-loathing. Sad, brilliant child.

Oilfieldguy | Thursday June 25, 2009 03:50 pm 16

We lost two cultural icons in one day today.

In an unrelated matter, the head of the Republican party, degenerate drug addict Oxymoron explained Governor Sanfords behavior, by blaming it on Obama. Yup, he was overwrought by an oversized black stimulus packaged teabagging him so he just said “f**k it” (it being Maria, one assumes) and went Galt.

Damn Straigh Dude.
(btw, the Seeds played at my HS.)
All the other news, including that girl named Maria and the accompanying story will wait. Even Health Care. C’mon……you can not be seriously thinking that main stream media is going to cover Your Personal Issues over stories that are going to grab attention.
Yeah, of course the guy was seriously weird, but considering what a tragic life he’s had, who would we be to judge.
I just told my son, this is like the day Elvis died, the day Lennon died.
Please don’t come back with a comment (not you Raven, I mean Anyone else, about my Your Personal Issues comment. ‘Cause they won’t get much traction. *g*

I feel the same way I did when Elvis & Lennon died – shocked !

MJ was an eccentric, he was also an amazing talent and one of my idols. My kids, nieces and nephews are in tears …

foothillsmike | Thursday June 25, 2009 04:01 pm 20

Only news that hasn’t already been worked to death is that Harold Koh has been confirmed.

It is sad.
Like Lisa D said. Pushing Too Hard.
Ultimately, don’t we all die from some form of cardiac arrest?
Michael sure had some cool moves, though.

Millineryman | Thursday June 25, 2009 04:04 pm 22

Here’s Michael doing Billie Jean on Motown’s 25 year anniversary. I’m stunned, and icon of my generation along with Farrah.

All this other shit will be here in the morning.

Hear, hear!

This is just stunning news, no matter if you were into his music or not.

I was no Elvis fan, but was saddened by his death as well.

This other shit will most certainly be here in the morning, for those of us fortunate enough to wake up to see it.

Yes, according to unnamed sources, Michael has left the building.

tbsa | Thursday June 25, 2009 04:15 pm 25

R.I.P Michael. Tremendous artist.
Everyone at my highschool knew how to do the “Thriller” dance. Just, wow.

I went wiht TMZ’s original report–Jackosn was not breathing when the ambulance was called. Knowing where his house is (I live in LA) and how far it is form UCLA (6 mins driving fast), and that if you stop breathing for 6 mins you’re dead–I trusted TMZ.

Raven | Thursday June 25, 2009 04:34 pm 27

Oh boy, Al Sharpton speaking from the Apollo!

DrZen | Thursday June 25, 2009 04:52 pm 28

Not to mention that this leaves the whole cool Zen thing a kind of yucky taste in mouth. Just for tonight. I’ll get over it.
People who have real spiritual interests try not to judge. Not always easy.
But, still.
I’m with ya.

applepie | Thursday June 25, 2009 05:41 pm 31

He was bizarre. But he was our bizarre. He always seemed to include in his present some glimpse of a utopian future that still eludes us, and seems now only naive wishcraft.

Rinding my bike along Venice Beach I was looking up at the clouds and thinking he was up there looking at us all (and I am rather anti-religious these days too), with a sense of relief and wistfulness.

marymccurnin | Thursday June 25, 2009 05:50 pm 32

Gawd, the way MSNBC is going on you would have thunk that Tim Russert had died again.

applepie | Thursday June 25, 2009 05:53 pm 33

Sky Saxon!

Are you denying he was a criminal? I think part of the sad reality is that he was another exploited child star. After a very early age, his life was no longer his own…full of managers & hangers-on & users for what’s in it for me. I do not know if he would have been so weird without all of that…but small wonder he went to such extremes to chart his own path when he was old enough..

CBS has a special at 9.

I get that some people here weren’t into Michael Jackson.

But, in that case, do what I do when stuff I’m not into (like, for instance the nonstop ‘Kate plus Eight’ or whatever it’s called) dominates the airwaves — change the channel.

ratfood | Thursday June 25, 2009 06:05 pm 36

Bad day for pop icons. Peace to family, friends, and fans of Sky, Farrah, and Michael.

STTPinOhio | Thursday June 25, 2009 06:14 pm 37

Are you denying he was a criminal?

I think what I said was it was a callused, cheap drive by comment.

Didn’t get into issues of his criminality.

There’s a time and place for that — for me, today isn’t it.

I have enjoyed Michael & his family’s music for almost 40 years.

His untimely death has touched me and my family greatly.

I do appreciate, however, the fact that you added context to your point of view, unlike the comment DrZen left.

“No cause for mourning” seemed a little needlessly cold to me.

Lisa Derrick | Thursday June 25, 2009 06:31 pm 38

whether you are a Michael Jackson fan or not, this is news. And several people invested millions in his comeback. he wons about half the Beatles catalog (he mortgaged the rest to his record company to cover his debt) Neverland ranch is a huge piece of pretty much undeveloped land in Santa Barbara county, which is now the property of his investors..so this does have impact beyond just another dead famous (and creepy ) guy. Not to mention the impact he has had on pop culture. WE ARE THE WORLD?

ohbytheway | Thursday June 25, 2009 06:35 pm 39

In the Zen world, I think this is called Carma

ohbytheway | Thursday June 25, 2009 06:37 pm 40

Opps , I meant Karma

applepie | Thursday June 25, 2009 06:39 pm 41

I’m drinking tequila tonight in MJ’s honor, a talented spirit, loud, creeps up on you disagreeably, and is is best served with a sweetener derived from cacti.

Beat that!

(anyone remember that great old punk song…dead pop stars(rotting in the studio/heaven on the radio))

cheers!

SensiStar | Thursday June 25, 2009 06:52 pm 42

Not gonna lie. I had to share a tear for MJ.

His music was the soundtrack of my youth.

His songs bring back memories through my 39 years of life including my first day in Kindergarten.

When I danced in the Kitchen to Dancing Machine and I swear you could not tell me I wan not Michael.

Rest In Peace.

To the Greatest Entertainer of my Lifetime.

bobpine | Friday June 26, 2009 05:07 am 43

I think now a lot of his video work, especially dealing with world suffering will now be appreciated, and better understood. They were showing some of those videos this morning, such as “heal the world” that at the time people were not really into. But I think now his message will get across.

RIP,Michael.
