Late Night: Letterman Show Goes on Despite Angry Mini-Mob of 50
While 50 protesters marched and chanted outside the Ed Sullivan Theater where David Letterman tapes his show, the comic–who had apologized to Governor Sarah Palin and her family last night–riffed off the protesters, using their idiocy as a springboard for his jokes. Palin has accepted his apology, but that didn’t stop the rabid chihuahua sized group fueled by talk show doofus John Ziegler and tax challenged tea bagger Mike Leahy–some carrying signs that read "Fire the Pervert David Letterman — who were met by a few counter protesters.
Letterman had this to say:
Now when I call your name, please come forward and pick up your apology. I wanna get through this as quickly as possibly so you folks can get to the ‘Fire Dave Rally.’ It’s nice that people hate me who are no longer just part of my immediate family. My son, he’s telling everybody at school that his father is Conan!…
The good news is Sarah Palin has accepted my apology. She also accepted a $500 gift certificate from Lens Crafters. I thought that was a nice touch. I tell you, I was quite nervous about this whole thing, and I was really nervous about an apology to Sarah Palin, so when I did get my confidence up and my nerves to settle down, I rehearsed by apologizing to Tina Fey. That helped. That was a big help.
His Top Ten List was entitled Top Ten Things Overheard at the Fire David Letterman Rally and included:

The protest was a boring flop. Perhaps the Fire Letterman brigade of senior citizens and Ziegler fans should have shown their distate for CBS and the sponsors of Letterman and his production company Worlwide Pants by putting on some real wide pants and getting all Hammer Time.

Fifty protestors?!?! I’m sure Dave was shaking in his sneakers.
