Satan Doesn’t Drive a Hot Rod: DMV Makes Exception for 666 License Plate
Dealing with the DMV isn’t always hellish, as Vietnam vet Lenny Ruiz found out when North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles issued him a veterans license plate reading A666. Ruiz, a Catholic, complained, and the DMV said he could exchange it for fee, which is their standard policy.
But Ruiz went to the media, and within hours of the story getting posted online, the DMV called and offered him a new plate free of cost. Smart move, because a group of his fellow vets were planning a march on on Raleigh to demand state licensing officials change their policy or make an exception for Ruiz. Ruiz told his local paper:
I had to tell them, ‘Naw, you don’t have to do all that. The DMV took care of everything; no need to march or anything.
A collector from Mississippi where the trauamtic triple digit has been banned for over 25 years–um what happened to separation of church and state?– has offered to buy the plate. Ruiz is mulling it over.
