Quitter! Levi Johnston Leaves His Job

levi-johnston.thumbnail.jpgWell at least he’ll have time to get his high school diploma.

Levi Johnston, who sired Sarah Palin’s first grandchild quit his job today. In October he told the Associated Press that he was quitting high school  to work as an apprentice electrician in the Alaska oil fields.

Questions were raised Sunday about Levi’s eligibility to work in the program, as a high school diploma or GED is required. Earlier this week Palin threw a frantic media fit, manically calling People Magazine, emailing the AP and contacting the Anchorage Daily News about her daughter and her boyfriend’s status (or not) as students.

Supermom Sarah told People Magazine that she:

wanted to be clear about their continuing work toward high school degrees because any suggestion otherwise "harms Bristol’s reputation and Levi’s reputation and their chances for good work opportunities."

On Sunday an Alaskan conservative commentator Dan Fagan also hinted that Gov GILF might be responsible for Levi’s gig, something his dad denied in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News:

Keith Johnston said his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work

while Alaska’s Frost Lady

denied helping Levi Johnston get the job and called Fagan’s column "a political pot shot taken at me."

Levi’s dad said his 18 year son "resigned" his job. Levi will move home to work on his education.

He felt it was the best thing to do to kind of calm the waters, so to speak.

Oh and also today, Levi’s mom Sherry pleaded not guilty to six counts of misconduct relating to possession and sale of Oxycontin. No one came to court to support her, and she asked for a public defender, saying that she is in the midst of a divorce, living on disability and child support, with outstanding medical bills, which probably explains why she was doing something stupid like selling drugs.  It’s no excuse, but it’s a reason. And the trial should be interesting, unless she gets a plea bargain.  But a trial would clear up that pesky matter of the Secret Service that may or may not have been hanging around and thus delaying Gram Johnston’s arrest.

Her public defender hustled Sherry past a reporter after the hearing

You so cannot make this stuff up.

The Secret Service” delying ” her arrest? Like they were catering to her or something?

Lisa Derrick | Monday January 5, 2009 09:00 pm 2

According the the affidavit filed by the case officer, the presence of the secret Service interfered with the arrest…

macaquerman | Monday January 5, 2009 09:30 pm 3

I’ve never heard of anyone “delying” an arrest. Maybe it was the Sandwich Service or someone from Subway.

Good. Finish the education and work the process the correct way like everyone else.

The grifters he’s involved himself with via wedlock only think they have a rosy future. A smart operator would make plans for what comes after their playhouse burns down.

that’s interesting. I hadn’t tried it. the Digg link is in the same color “ink” as the other comments (purple), but other peoples’ links are in green. maybe because they aren’t embedded? hmm. how are you supposed to know there’s a link there?

dcblogger | Monday January 5, 2009 09:58 pm 14

wow, leave the kid alone. Kids can’t choose their parents. These two have a lot on their plate, and she has to cope with the fact that her mom lost by a landslide. Why dump on them? What did these two ever do to you? This is just cyber bullying and it sets a truly bad example to children. Shame on you. Shame on you.

The point of this post is not to pick on Levi but to point out the short cuts that he got to take because he happened to be dating the gov’s daughter. His dad skirted/ignored/had his friends break state and federal laws to get the kid a job. That’s not much of an example his dad is setting. His child’s grandmother tried to cover for him in the media.

Perhaps you should direct your pique at Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, who put her kids, the whole lot of them, in the line of fire – making them exquisite bit players in the most cynical presidential campaign in history, trotted them out as bona fides for motherhood.

Maybe you should shout at Tony Perkins, who used to tell his ‘flock’ that it was OK to throw rocks at pregnant teenagers, until one of them turned out to be the daughter of the anointed.

Or maybe you should examine the real possibility that Mr. Johnston, as unqualified as a fire hydrant for the position of ‘electricians apprentice,’ and whose future Mother-in-Law is the Governor of the state and who has a record replete with influence peddling and favoritism in hiring, received some partiality in his selection for the job.

Yeah, sure Lisa. And you wrote about it because you’re always writing about kids getting jobs in an unethical manner.

Cool thanks for following up now then just how did he get accepted in the first place the Union made my brother get his highschool transcript first before he got the job.
Or rather me and my dad got it and mailed it to him cause my Brother was living out of state.
I wonder who got passed over for a union job because Sarah or somebody pulled some strings?
I can’t believe that nobody in the Union never heard any news coverage of Bristole’s baby daddy not finishing high school and wondered how he got in?
Also electrician requires math and skills did he even take an electronics class?
Is electronics even offered at the school? Voc ed has been cut back at lots of schools.

Levi’s dad who is an engineer with Arctic Slope Regional Corp, which also employed Levi says his “his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work.” In other words, he probably asked someone to get his kid a job, and well..you know. Once the lack of high school diploma became apparent, there was some scrambling and Levi had to leave the job.

Is this the right address? The second link shows the Voc ed program no electronics classes.

Engineer’s don’t hire people Contractor’s who own the business hire Union certified employees. Who gets in the Union is not up to the contractor.
An Engineer on a job can pick his team of workers from the Union pile.
My Dad was an Engineer.

ThingsComeUndone | Monday January 5, 2009 11:35 pm 29

No highschool diploma means general labor not skilled labor like the day labor employment agencies.

ThingsComeUndone | Monday January 5, 2009 11:36 pm 30

I don’t know if he had the Math but without the electronics classes I do not see how an exception could be made?

ThingsComeUndone | Monday January 5, 2009 11:43 pm 31

Cripes Unions have classes as an apprentice Levi must have flunked out cause there is no way they would let him near live current without them.
He was a gopher getting tools, sandwiches whatever the electricians wanted him to do until he passed his classes.
Which I’m guessing exam time came around he failed and he did not want to go through the classes again.
Assuming we know when he started work thats when he started taking classes now just how long are the classes before the final exam and he moves up a notch?

ThingsComeUndone | Monday January 5, 2009 11:51 pm 32

I am not sure If I would trust a GED for Levy or Bristol when Sarah’s political career needs them to pass to show that she is a good mom.

I’m not trying to be harsh sometimes I know I can come off that way.
My point is someone leaned on both the Union to get him in. Then someone leaned on the contractor to hire an unqualified worker this is payola.
Engineers like Levy’s Dad do not have that kind of pull. Unless they are overlooking things like cheap substandard construction.
Sure Levy’s dad might be friends with Union guys and contractors but it takes pull to get them to hire someone without a highschool diploma.
I’m sure the Union and the contractor said general unskilled labor or wait until he gets his GED.
Electronics classes might have excused an exception now then did Levy even have the math credit he needs for the job?
If not trying to Learning Algebra on the job suggests he never had a chance.

hackworth | Tuesday January 6, 2009 06:07 am 36

Sarah Palin will need to buy them both some GED certificates before installing either of them in plum positions ahead of everyone elses’ kids. She should talk to anyone in the Bush family, they know how to do it without anyone calling attention to it.

Unfortunately the Bush family is capable of greasing the skids at various elite college admissions offices. And as far as I know, all of the Bush kids have graduated from high school. Isn’t that one hell of a recommendation?? “Classier than the Palin/Johnstons”?

The Troopers’ union has withdrawn its allegation that the arrest was delayed and the Commissioner of Public Safety claims it was all miscommunication.

Levi did resign his job however, perhaps because of the lack of educational credentials, the failure to take an aptitude test, the performing a George W. Bush jump on the waiting list. We may never know. He’s going back to pursue his education. At this rate he and baby boy Tripp may graduate together.

Kropotkin | Wednesday January 7, 2009 01:10 am 39

The Bush family is not much classier than the Palin/Johnstons. Dubya was busted three times, last time for DUI and he knocked up a teenager (buying her an abortion) while he was married. Jeb’s wife was busted smuggling in expensive overseas purchases. I guess she thought she was in the duty free line. Jeb’s boy got busted for getting a Monica in a parking lot. Daughter Noelle makes Brittany look mature. The Dubya twins got busted for under age drinking, fake IDs. Uncle Neil caused the Silverado Bank to go under, costing the taxpayer millions, came home and gave his wife the clap. Grandpa Preston had his bank seized for trading with the Nazis in WW II. If Bush starts right now he won’t be able to sign all the pardons just for the family.
